Local Group timing argument and virial theorem mass estimators from cosmological simulations

چکیده

We identify Local Group (LG) analogs in the IllustrisTNG cosmological simulation, and use these to study two mass estimators for LG: one based on timing argument (TA) virial theorem (VT). Including updated measurements of Milky Way-M31 tangential velocity constant, we show that TA estimator slightly overestimates true median LG-mass, though ratio is consistent at approximate 90\% c.l. These are broad agreement with previous results using dark matter-only simulations. VT better estimates there a larger scatter relative corresponding TA. attribute broader several factors, including predominantly radial orbits LG satellite galaxies, which differs from assumption isotropic orbits. With systematic uncertainties derive, $4.75_{-2.41}^{+2.22} \times 10^{12}$ M$_\odot$ $2.0_{-1.5}^{+2.1} VT. consider LMC's effect estimates, do not find exact LMC-MW-M31 analogues Illustris However, simulations companions as massive LMC small, need further studies sample systems confirm results.

Stellar population gradients from cosmological simulations: dependence on mass and environment in local galaxies

The age and metallicity gradients for a sample of group and cluster galaxies from N-body+hydrodynamical simulation are analysed in terms of galaxy stellar mass. Dwarf galaxies show null age gradient with a tail of high and positive values for systems in groups and cluster outskirts. Massive systems have generally zero-age gradients which turn to positive for the most massive ones. Metallicity g...

Exchange-Correlation Energy Density from Virial Theorem

The virial of the exchange potential in density functional theory yields the exchange energy, but the virial of the correlation potential does not yield the correlation energy. Via the adiabatic connection formula, we define a hypercorrelated potential whose virial is exactly the correlation energy. This exchange-correlation energy density is uniquely determined by the exchange-correlation ener...

Cosmological argument in proving the existence of God from Imam Khomeini's (RA) point of view

This article reviews Cosmological argument in proving the existence of God from the viewpoint of Imam Khomeini (RA). At first, various views to the existence of God are reviewed and then its etymology will be reviewed. Cosmological argument proves God through universal premises about truth and world and and the Movement Argument, Casual Argument and Necessity and Possibility Argument are dif...

Dark energy and the mass of the Local Group

Dark energy must be taken into account to estimate more reliably the amount of dark matter and how it is distributed in the local universe. For systems several Mpc across like the Local Group, we introduce three self-consistent independent mass estimators. These account for the antigravity effect of dark energy treated as Einstein’s cosmological constant Λ. The first is a modified Kahn-Woltjer ...
